Needle biopsies can spread cancer

Biopsy Dangers

(NaturalHealth365) Could needle biopsies actually promote cancer cell growth? There are a substantial number of reports that claim the spread of malignant cells can follow a breast tumor biopsy. This has been reported for lung, thyroid, brain and pancreatic tumor biopsies as well.

This occurrence is called “seeding”, which implies planting of things that will grow over time. Seeding is thought of as implantations, which cause local recurrence along the trail where the needle was passed. And, yes, many doctors have discovered nests of cancerous cells along a needle’s path.

The unspoken dangers of a biopsy

A biopsy is the removal of some tissue in order to examine it. Biopsies can be done in a few ways, one is a surgical removal of a tumor either in part or completely plus a complete removal with wide margins. Biopsies can be done with needles, either a core needle biopsy or a fine needle aspiration (FNA).

Cancer cells lose the stickiness and orderliness of normal cells, and because of the loss of cohesion, and the ease with which these cells emigrate and colonize, it is easy to dislodge cancer cells from a tumor during either biopsy or surgery.

Tumor cells that wind up in blood vessels can travel to distant sites and tumor cells also can be pushed into the interstitial fluid and wind up traveling up the chain of lymph nodes.

The larger needle of a core needle biopsy causes more disturbance within a tumor versus a fine bore needle.

Unfortunately, fine needle biopsies may not get enough tissue for a diagnosis because it can miss the cancerous part of the tumor and may even loosen (or drag) cancer cells along its needle path – which can (potentially) set up a secondary tumor location.

After the biopsy, you still have the tumor and perhaps a bigger problem, doctors don’t know if any cells escaped the natural barriers of the tumor. In fact, tumor cell displacement has been observed in 32 percent of the patients who have undergone a large-gauge needle core biopsy of the breast.

Why does the cancer return?

Even though seeding or implantation is suspected as the cause of local recurrence following image-guided breast biopsy – the vast majority of conventional doctors are officially claiming that this simply isn’t true.

Studies on the dissemination of cancer cells with biopsy on prostate cancer suggested an overall dissemination rate of 37 percent – meaning that cancer cells were found circulating in peripheral samples. In addition, 16 of 62 cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) also had their benign cells circulating after the procedure.

A malignant tumor secretes a substance which inhibits the growth of disseminating tumor cells. In reality, a primary tumor does NOT want any other growing cancers to compete for the same food supply – so it can limit their growth by secreting a known angiogenesis inhibitory factor.

Angiogenesis is the creation of new blood vessels, which is an important factor in the tumors’ ability to grow. The amount of vascular growth in a tumor is an indicator of its ability to grow and spread. Biopsies interfere with the angiogenesis inhibitory factor.

Surgery is a threat in metastasis, which means the metastases are initiated by removing the primary tumor. One area being studied is the high rate of local tumor recurrence even with a tumor free margin.

There are surgeons that suggest any manipulation of a tumor leads to its spread. There are papers that state, “the process of tumor removal is associated with the inadvertent dissemination of viable neoplastic cells that in turn contribute to recurrent tumor growth.”

Is there a better way to test for cancer risk?

Breast thermography is a safe, practical way to image breasts plus a great way to avoid the radiation associated with mammograms. In addition, Dr. John Apsley has discovered a new way to detect cancer with a simple blood test. The best part of this blood test is its ability to detect any cancer much sooner than conventional procedures – without harming the body.

Of course, the medical establishment only supports mammograms, biopsies, and other procedures. So, if you’re inclined to go the conventional route, disregard this information. But, keep in mind that cancer is not a deficiency of invasive diagnostic testing, biopsies, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Instead of helping cancer cells escape confinement in the prostate or breast – it may be best to look at the one (often) overlooked truth, diet and lifestyle modifications are a safe (highly effective) way to reverse many health problems.
