How-To Instructions

1

Grab Everything You Need

Make sure you have all the right equipment for the job. You can select one of our diatomaceous earth products below.

2

Feed Ratios

Feed grade diatomaceous earth should be used at a rate of 5% of the dry weight of animal feed for deworming and 2% of the dry weight of animal feed for maintenance and added health benefits provided by the silica, trace elements and toxin binding properties.

Some sample ratios are as follows:

  • - Horse and cattle: 2 kg/100 kg of feed (5 kg/100 kg feed for deworming)
  • - Hogs and sheep: 2 kg/100 kg of feed (5 kg/100 kg feed for deworming)
  • - Chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks: 1/2 tsp per cup of dry feed (1tsp per cup for deworming)
  • - Dogs: 1 tsp per cup of feed (2 tsp per cup for deworming)
  • - Cats: ½ tsp per cup of feed ( 2 tsp per cup for deworming)

    3

    Measure Your Diatomaceous Earth

To ensure accuracy, measure beforehand the quantity of feed you wish to produce. After the weight of feed has been established, measure out the correct amount of DE before you add it to the feed.

    4

Mix the DE With the Feed

Pour the pre-measured diatomaceous earth directly onto the feed and mix it in. Make sure to distribute the diatomaceous earth equally for more effective results. Also, diatomaceous earth works best if the feed is cool and dry. The mixture should be smooth before feeding it to the animal.

    5

    Repeat as Desired

Food grade DE can be consumed daily when kept to a maximum of 2% per dry weight of animal feed. After you've had the chance to notice the difference, why not share your experience with adding DE to your animal's feed below?

    Helpful Tips and Warnings

      • If you have breathing problems, like asthma, you may want to wear a dust mask when mixing large amounts of DE.
      • Store diatomaceous earth in a cool, dry location.
      • Mix the diatomaceous earth with the feed so it's covered completely.
      • Be sure to use food grade diatomaceous earth.
